Patient
“After I came out of hospital having had heart surgery I wondered how to say thank you to those Doctors and Nurses that looked after me so well. When I got home there was a letter from my holiday company saying that the holiday I had booked for my birthday had been cancelled but the good news was I got 100% of my money back. So here we are at the hospital handing over a cheque for £1,000, my way of saying thank you to them for saving my life.”
Volunteer
Blessed with free time in my week and previous biomedical, charity and support experience, I have been volunteering at GWH since 2017. I am a Cancer Buddy supporting cancer patients and I help the Brighter Futures team at their events, in their office and at their Donation Hub a couple of mornings per week.
It is fulfilling to be able support a great cause and make a difference to staff and patients in such a rewarding way. I also appreciate the routine and camaraderie and that no two shifts are ever the same. I like this variation and the fact I feel appreciated in my roles.
