A diagnosis of cancer can have an impact on many areas of your life, both during and after treatment. Getting the right support, information and practical advice at the right time can help patients and their families cope with the impact of living with and after cancer.
At the Great Western Hospital NHS Foundation Trust we have the facilities to diagnose and treat many types of cancer.
Our wide range of services for both adults and young people includes:
• Specialist surgery
• Chemotherapy (drug therapy)
• Haemato-oncology (cancer of the blood)
• Palliative services
• Supportive care services
We provide inpatient, day-case and outpatient services for cancer treatments.
Where highly specialised treatments are required, patients are referred to the appropriate specialist centre, which is usually a recognised centre of excellence for that particular type of cancer and its treatment.
Dove Ward is our highly specialist ward where patients who require inpatient treatments, such as complex and lengthy chemotherapy, are cared for.
All day case chemotherapy services are provided in our Day Therapy Centre. The Day Therapy Centre provides a comprehensive range of chemotherapy delivery, alongside procedures including:
• Intrathecal chemotherapy
• Bone-marrow biopsies
• Scalp cooling for specific types of chemotherapy treatments
Donations to the cancer services at the Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust make such a difference, they help us to fund ground breaking research, support the development and training of hospital staff and provide state-of-the-art equipment, all of which make the lives of our patients that much easier.
