Wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) in a warm/hot hospital environment increases the risk of heat stress to our staff. This occurs when the body is unable to cool itself enough to maintain a healthy temperature. Heat stress can cause heat exhaustion and lead to heat stroke if the person is unable to cool down.
Donations during COVID19 have enabled us to buy four fridges to store drinks and other refreshments that help our staff to keep well hydrated and fuelled through their long shifts.
