Urgent Treatment Centre

Great Western Hospital's £15 million Urgent Treatment Centre is now open!

The modern, fit-for-purpose centre has doubled the hospital's capacity for treating patients. This facility has come at just “the right time”, the UTC’s clinical lead Dr Satinder Mann says. The number of patients being treated at the UTC almost doubled since the pandemic started two years ago from 90 patients a day to 170.

The new building includes separate waiting areas for adults and children as well as a beautiful calming sky ceiling which brings the outside in. It also houses the hospital's first changing places facility for children and adults with disabilities.

There are gender-neutral toilets, the reception desk has been lowered to allow access for wheelchair users and calming colours have been used to support patients with dementia.

The UTC is open 365 days a year from 7am-10pm for patients needing urgent or emergency care.
